Chris Larsen, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I always enjoyed going into Hilltop Sports with my husband and listen to Tilly talk about his stories with his customers. He was always helpful and friendly. Until today, I didn't realize he was your father. May God comfort you in this difficult time.

I remember Tilly from classes at GHS. I even remember asking his Mom how the "Tilly" moniker came to be, but I have long forgotten her reply. We know God has a place for each of us and the people John touched during his time with us will always remember him. Clark Kent, GHS 68.

One of my favorite stories to tell came from Tilly about when an owl hooted just as he was about to touch the door handle of his truck one morning. I can still hear him tell the story and I still laugh. My condolences to Cheri, Bob and the rest of the family.

I remember John from my youth when he visited my parents. He had the most beautiful long hair I have ever saw on a man and, the biggest smile that reached from ear to ear. His laugh could be heard from the front yard to the barn. My parents hearts are cracking and so is mine, Chris I'm so sorry!

John was the kind of guy you wanted to get to know. Many nights, after working at Gibson in Belding , John made sure that my wife Diane got home safely. That was John. With broken hearts we say, "Catch ya later."

Oh, Cheri and family. I am so sorry to read of John's death. I am honestly devastated. You don't know me and I will fill you in here. My friend Tina and I were the "newbies" at a CCW class at Hilltop last fall. We had never shot a handgun and had to be the last ones to shoot. We went out to shoot and were met by your John. He was so kind and helpful. How were we to know that when we started with our mostly weekly shooting dates at Magnum that we would be greeted by John as his "newbies". He was such an incredible help especially to me. He helped me with guns and shooting. I was really struggling and he kept encouraging me and helping me. He was such a kind soul and a man of such integrity. He spoke of his family so often and always with a smile and that twinkle in his eye. I know that he loved each of you deeply. I will forever miss his smile at Magnum. It will never be the same. My love to you at this difficult time.

John,Jim, and I spent a lot of our young life playing together. Our house was just across the ball field. We always went to summer recreation at Walnut School where Mr. Diehl taught Jim how to play chess. It's difficult experiencing the loss of childhood friends. Best regards to the family.
