1947 - 2013
 Karl Alger Brand, age 66, died early Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home in Greenville. He was born July 16, 1947, the son of Alger and Adele Brand. Karl was a graduate of the University of Michigan. He enjoyed swimming and visiting the beach in Grand Haven. He also enjoyed attending church with his wife. He had a dry sense of humor. More than anything, he was a loving, understanding husband and best friend to his wife, Jamie. Karl is survived by his wife; brothers, Gary Brand of Vermont and the Rev. Michael Brand of Ontario, Canada; sister, Gloria (Jim Anderson) Brand of Kansas; mother-in-law, Katherine Onstott of Greenville; sister-in-law, Major Julie Shepherd of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law, Robert Onstott, Jr. of Greenville; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Robert Onstott, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Rev. Philip Van Dop will serve as officiant, and burial will follow in East Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenville Area Ecumenical Food Mission.
