1923 - 2013
 John David Secor, 90, of Greenville Michigan, joined his wife Luella on December 27th, passing away peacefully at Country Living Adult Foster Care Home with his family by his side. John was born on May 29th, 1923 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to John and Jessie May (Carty) Secor. The fifth of eight children, John enjoyed a lifelong love of water and a strong sense of patriotism that led him to enlist in US Navy at 17, requiring his mothers signature. John was stationed in Pearl Harbor on the USS St. Louis, where he witnessed the beginnings of US involvement in World War II on December 7th, 1941, as the Japanese launched their surprise attack on the harbor while he was headed to church. He further campaigned in the Pacific with tours of duty in Midway and the Philippines, eventually participating in Operation Magic Carpet to bring troops home at the wars end. The war also brought John his most cherished prize when in 1945 he met Luella Smith, his future wife of 62 years, while on shore leave. They were married just three weeks after a chance meeting in Long Beach, California. At the end of the war, they returned to Luellas home state to start their family in Carson City, MI. John worked at Federal Mogul in Greenville MI for over 30 years, enjoying music, organ playing, and working with his hands, while staying near the water in his cottage that he built on Little Blue Lake. John continued his service to his country by serving as Post Commander for VFW Post 5065 in Sheridan, MI. Shortly before retiring, John and Luella settled in a home on East High Street in Greenville, MI, where they lived for 30 years. John was a caring, loving parent and grandparent survived by three daughters; Susan (Ray) Hart of Eagle, MI; Diane (Dennis) Simon of Fowler, MI; and Nancy Secor-Brunk (Mike) of Leonardtown, MD; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his sister Patricia Sawyer and brother Thomas of Fond Du Lac Wisconsin, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Luella, his granddaughter Christy Jo, parents John and Jessie May, brother Willard, and sisters Francis, Margaret, Eileen and Maureen of Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 31st, at 11am at St Charles Catholic Church, 505 South Lafayette Street, Greenville MI. with Rev. Father Michael Cilibraise as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Monday December 30, from 4 to 8 PM at Hurst Funeral Home. Military honors will be given by VFW Post #5065 of Sheridan. Burial will be in the Spring at St. Charles Cemetery Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to VFW Post # 5065 or St. Charles Parish. |

Hugs to all of you! I don't really know what to say...he will be missed by all who know him.
Great obituary! I can still see him with that twinkle in his eye :) How he ever fit in that volkswagon is beyond me, but he was so proud of that car!
