1921 - 2014
Doris Elizabeth (Cross) Cannon, age 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She was born July 14, 1921 on the family farm south of Entrican, the daughter of Nihl and Lillian (Gyger) Cross. Along with her husband Marvin, Doris was a dedicated lifelong resident of Stanton. She led a very interesting life and was truly a Rosie the Riveter during World War II at the aircraft factory. She also worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company, the Reminder News, and the Greenville Daily News. She was very active in the American Legion Post 452 Auxiliary in Stanton and the First Congregational Church of Stanton. Her beautiful storytelling will be missed. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Marvin in 2013; son-in-law, Michael Johnson; a baby son; her parents; and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Barrett of Madison Heights and Phyllis Johnson of Greenville; and grandchildren, Christina (Robert) Francis of Gowen, Steve Barrett and fiancee Kim Potts of Madison Heights, and Michael (Sarah) Johnson of Lakeview. Doris doted on her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Travis, Dominick, Kyle, Alex, Noah, and Ava. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Altona) Cross; sister, Shelia Smith; sister-in-law, Dorothy Neitzel Jensen; several nieces and nephews; and her special friends at Metron of Greenville who took such wonderful care of her. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 21 at the First Congregational Church, Stanton, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Rev. Jamey Nichols will serve as officiant. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Langston. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Congregational Church of Stanton.

Jeanne and family - Sending my sympathy in the passing of your sweet, pretty mother. Seems we've always "known her" as Mom's stories of times-past frequently included your mom and her sister. She will be missed. God bless and comfort you now as you celebrate her long life. The women of her day were so strong!
