
Barbara Lucille Lucy Benedict age 83 of Greenville passed away Thursday October 23, 2014 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in East Grand Rapids, MI. She was born in Edmore on May 14, 1931 the daughter of Glen M. and Clara Adelaide (Bower) Pierce. Lucy grew up on a farm with her family and graduated from Carson City High School. She married Lee E. Benedict on January 18, 1958 and for many years was a child care provider in her home for several Greenville families. She was an avid reader, a woman with a strong Christian faith and attended Faith Baptist Church. She enjoyed embroidery and was known as the Butterfly Lady.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Pierce and Dr. James Pierce DVM and her sister Jane Gavitt.
She is survived by her husband Lee and their children; Penny (Max) Bailey of McBride, Chris (Kristeen) Benedict of Ionia, Barbara (Tom) Ledger of Gowen, Sandy (Robert) Saunders of Henderson, Colorado and Beverly (Jeff) White of Greenville, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren, her sister Dorothy Wilson of Perrinton, her in-laws; Joanne Pierce of Middleton, Marlene Pierce of Midland, Richard (Hazel) Benedict of Jenison, Ronald (Sharon) Benedict of Greenville, Donald (Judy) Benedict of Byron Center, Betty Arntz of Gowen and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Monday October 27, 2014 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Winter of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Spectrum Health Hospice or Faith Baptist Church.
