
Barbara H. Corey age 88 passed away at the home of her daughter in Greenville on February 6, 2015.
She lived at Derby Lake, Stanton for 44 years. She was born in a farmhouse north of Gowen on March 3, 1926 to Harry and Leah (Johnson) Larsen. She went to the one room school called Settlement, then to Greenville, working all four years for her room and board to go to high school. She graduated with the class of 1944. Seven of her classmates got together once every year for 60 years. They were Donna (Cannon) Buchholz, Ruth (Hansen) Kraft, Pricilla (Barnes) Campbell, Marilyn (Hansen) Christensen, Phyllis (Kraft) Shaver, Lucille (Peckham) Kortes and herself. She worked for 5 years for the A & P store and for 38 years for Meijers as a cashier, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Shiloh Community church and former member of the Post 101 American Legion Auxiliary, Greenville.
She loved to travel and has been in all the 50 states, Canada, Europe, all the Scandinavian countries, St. Petersburg, Russia, Tokyo, Japan, and China, walking the Great Wall, Hong Kong, Australia, Fiji Islands, New Zeeland, South America and Mexico. Spent time on cruises to the Bahamas, Alaska, Panama Canal and the Mediterranean Sea.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth Corey, her sister, Madalene Jorgensen, brothers-in-law, Melvin Jorgensen and Arthur Gorman and her son Mark D. Higgins in 2008.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Etta Basney and son Marshall Higgins both of Greenville, sister,
Frances Gorman of Battle Creek and special friend Norman Rahn of Stanton, grandchildren, Kari Lynn Basney of Greenville, Paul (Nichole) Higgins of South Carolina Melissa and Laura Higgins of Grand Rapids, 7 great grandchildren, Jacob, Grace, Madison, Christopher, Berkley, Kaiden and Kyler, step children, Kathy (Mike) Ball of Greenville, Bill and Marlene Corey of Auburn MI, nephews, Bruce (Linda) Jorgensen of Illinois, John (Cyndi) Higgins of Greenville, nieces Sue (Leroy) Robinette of Colon and Janene (Carl) Gunderson of Canadian Lakes.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday February 11, 2015 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Prewitt of Shiloh community Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Community Church, White Pine Library of Stanton, Heritage Village of Sidney or Derby Lake Association
