
Robert Earl Thomas, 95, of Greenville, passed away peacefully and comfortable at home on March 30,2015. He was born in Home Township, Newaygo County, on May 6, 1919, the son of Alice M.(Curtis) and Joseph E. Thomas. He married Virginia Yvonne Sweet in Paris, Michigan, on November 24, 1941. He and Virginia were both retirees of Electrolux (Gibson Refrigerator Co.) and members of the UAW Local 137 for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #101 Greenville.
Robert and Virginia both enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends and family.
He loved family gatherings and cherished bible truths learned after the passing of his wife.
Robert was a veteran of WW2 serving as an Army medic for 3 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
Robert and Virginia enjoyed a wonderfully happy marriage of 70 years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert L. of Stanton and Terry L. (Paulette) Thomas of Chattanooga, Tenn.11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren;sister,Mary Jo(Randy)Von Feldt of Stafford, Texas, sister-in-law, Sandra Sweet of Big Rapids,and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, April 5, 2012, a great granddaughter,Kerri,4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday April 2, 2015 at Hurst Funeral Home,Greenville, followed by burial with military honors in Rest Haven Memory Gardens next to his wife of 70 years.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home on Thursday. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice.
