James Homber Gilbert Sr., 69, Vinton, Ohio passed away Sunday, April 20, 2003 in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, WV. He was born October 1, 1933 at Davenport, VA, son of the late Garfied and Pearl Thomas Gilbert. He was formerly employed as the head mechanic for Merco Mining and owner of Gilbert Trucking.
James is survived by his wife, Goldie Deel, whom he married June 25, 1955 at Clintwood, VA. To this union were born six sons and one daughter: Donnie (Tenna) Gilbert, Rio Grande, OH; James P. (Jerri) Gilbert, Vinton, OH; Larry (Diane) Gilbert, Vinton, OH; Gary Gilbert, Vinton, OH; James H. Gilbert Jr., Vinton, OH; Rick Gilbert, Vinton, OH; and Wilma Gilbert, Vinton, OH.
In addition, he is survived by thirteen grandchildren, Dawn (Brad) Bellvile, Athens, OH; Jennifer (Carl) DeWitt, Gallipolis; Cory Gilbert, Rio Grande; Tamme (Steve) Koebel, Rio Grande; Chris and Amber Gilbert, and Brandon Gilbert, Vinton; Tera And Dustin Gilbert, Vinton. Two great-grandchildren, Nathan Belville, Athens and Kaleb DeWitt, Gallipolis.
Five brothers and one sister, Brady (Ellen) Gilbert, Cheshire; Milford (Alice) Gilbert, Cheshire; David (Dorthy) Gilbert, Rodney; Hershel Gilbert, Gallipolis; Keith (Sheila) Gilbert, Gallipolis; and Carol (Charles) Spurlock, Centerpoint, OH. A special friend Manford Merkle, Moxahala, OH.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton with Pastor John Elswick officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Ridge Cemetery, Cheshire. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the James H. Gilbert Memorial Fund, 208 Main St., P.O.
