Ernest "Bug" Thacker, Jr., Ewington, Ohio, passed away Sunday Morning, April 27, 2003, in Pleasant Valley Hospital, Pt. Pleasant, W.V. He was a retired coal miner and U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He attended the Fairview Church of Christ in Christian Union near Alice and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Vinton American Legion Post 161.
Bug, as he was known, was born November 7, 1929, at Ewington, son of the late Ernest Thacker and Lillian Boyce Thacker. He married Joan Snyder on April 9, 1957, in Ewington, and she survives with one daughter: Diane Russell, Ewington; two grandchildren: Ryan Russell and Brittney Russell, Ewington; one sister: Gladys (Richard) Alabaugh, Parkersburg, W.V.; and a sister-in-law, Dorcas White, Ewington. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, in the Fairview Church of Christ in Christian Union, Alice, with Rev. Denver McCarty and Rev. A.B. Maloy officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Alice. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Vinton American Legion Post 161.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, on Tuesday, 6:00-9:00 P.M.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
