Jewel V. Scragg, 74, of Vinton, passed away at her residence on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003. She was born July 8, 1929, at Charleston, WV, daughter of the late William Rexford and Arvie Priscilla Smith Patton. She retired from Kmart following 20 years of employment. She attended the Good News Baptist Church of Gallipolis.
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband Darus Scragg, April 1, 1993. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jarrel "Torp" Patton and Darrel Patton.
She is survived by two daughters, Torona Hash of Vinton and Priscilla (Michael) Neville of Bidwell; one son, William "Bill" Patton; 6 grandchildren, Zachary Stanley of Vinton, who was reared in her home, Jason Burnette of Vinton, Jarrod Hash, U.S. Navy on the USS Kittyhawk, Michael Neville of Rio Grande, Ashley Neville of Bidwell, and Alli Neville of Bidwell; two great grandchildren, Blake and Haiden Burdette; one brother, James (Barbara) Patton of Sissonville, WV; one sister, Joan (Clinton) Patterson of Charleston, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Jewell had a friendly, fun loving and outgoing personality and her wit and sense of humor was always a joy to others. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton with the Rev. Paul Stinson officiating. Graveside services will follow 4 p.m. in the Shaffer-Painter Cemetery in Sissonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
