John V. Jenkins, 87, Bidwell, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 2003, in V.A. Medical Center, Chillicothe.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a WWII Army Veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 27, Gallipolis; the D.A.V., Meigs Chapter 53, Cheshire; and he attended several churches in the Gallia County area.
Jenkins was born July 10, 1916, in Gallia County, son of the late James A. and Mintie VanKirk Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ella and his wife, Reva Kemper Jenkins.
He is survived by one son, Vernon (Lynda) Jenkins of Federal Way, Wash.; five grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Jenkins of Bidwell; two sisters, Olive Trimmer of Goshen, Ind., and Edria Emory of Zionsville, Ind.; four step-sons, Gary, David, and Greg Thacker of Marion, and Kevin Thacker of Savannah, Ga.; and eight step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, with the Rev. Heath Jenkins officiating.
Interment will be in the Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m. on Friday.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans service organizations.
