Damon Stapleton, 72, Pomeroy, passed away in Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003.
Born August 28, 1931, at Salt Rock, W.Va., son of the late Luther and Mary Wheatley Stapleton. He was a retired costruction worker and a member of the Waterloo F.&A.M. Lodge 532.
Stapleton is survived by his wife, Maxine Lee Stapleton; one son, Raymond (Jeree) Stapleton of Wilkesville; three daughters, Sharon (Kelly) Spencer of Fairborn; Kathy (Harry) Buck of Thurman, and Judy (Doug) Bird, Wellston; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; four step-children, Jimmy (Kim) Lee of Pomeroy, Brenda (Don) Guthrie of Pomeroy, Diane (Greg) Lewis of Clifton, W.Va., and Greg (Kelly) Lee of Middleport; seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom (Margaret) Stapleton of McArthur; and five sisters, Foe (Owens) Haynes of Sissonville, Frances (Larry) Anderson of Parkersburg, W.Va., Jo (Pete) Fitch of Atlanta, Ga., Hilda (Roscoe) Payne of Sissonville, W.Va., and Myrtle Goble, Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Stapleton, one granddaughter, three brothers, Charles, Ed and Naamon Stapleton; and four sisters, Opal Lockerman, Audrey Comer, Anna Harbor, and Kathleen Johnston.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the McCoy-Moore funeral home, Vinton, with Brother Sonny McClure officiating.
Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery near Wilkesville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Friday and 10 -11 a.m. Saturday.
