Sherry Harrison Barker, 41, Fredericksburg, Virginia, formerly of Gallia County, died February 19, 2004, as the result of an auto accident on her way to her work. She was born May 9, 1962, in Gallipolis, Ohio , the daughter of Mary Lou Harrison, Gallipolis, Ohio and the late Paul L. “Chub” Harrison.
Sherry was a 1980 graduate of Kyger Creek High School, Valedictorian of the class; 1984 graduate of Marshall University, and a 2003 graduate of Union Theological Center of Virginia in Richmond, where she graduated 2nd in her class, Magna cum laude with a Degree of Master of Divinity. She was presently a teacher at the Ni River Middle School, Spotsylvania, where she taught 7th and 8th grade math.
She is survived by her son, John Harrison Barker, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Also surviving are two brothers, Steve and Jennifer Harrison, Gallipolis, Ohio and Larry and Lori Harrison, Forrest, Virginia. She has three nieces, Megan Harrison, student of Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio; Laura Harrison, student of Ohio University, Athens, Ohio and Heather Harrison, student of Central Virginia Community College, Lynchburg, Virginia. One nephew, Matthew Harrison, Forrest, Virginia. She also has three step-nephews, Dustin, Cody, and Grant Ward, all of Forrest, Virginia. She is also survived by aunts, Opal Griggs, Columbus, Ohio, Marie Leonard, New Haven, West Virginia; Iris Cox, Gallipolis, Ohio, Marcella Gilliam, Patriot, Ohio and Peggy Gillispie, Hillard, Ohio, an uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Virginia Harrison, Gallipolis, Ohio, Robert Harrison, Gallipolis, Ohio and James Harrison, Tamarac, Florida. She has one great aunt, Marietta Reynolds, of Bidwell, Ohio.
Sherry was well liked by all her friends and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She was active in sports and was in the Kyger Creek marching and concert band, where she received the John Phillip Sousa Award in 1980.
Sherry was a member of the Addison United Methodist Church, before moving to King George, Virginia, where she became a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She presently attended the Fredericksburg Congregational Church.
Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Monday, February 23, 2004 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis with Rev. Larry Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Street Cemetery, Gallipolis. Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, Monday.
