Robert Leroy Schaeffing, 83, of Gallipolis, passed away May 17, 2004, in Arbors of Gallipolis.
Mr. Schaeffing retired as chief engineer from M & G Towing Inc., in 1992 and had forty years service on the Inland Water Ways. He was a U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Elks Lodge #107, Gallipolis; the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Point Pleasant, W.Va.; and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of Gallipolis.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, William Joseph Schaeffing, one brother and three sisters.
Born March 18, 1921, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Augustoff and Hazel Margaret Schaeffing. He married Martha Janice Cook Oct. 11, 1941, at Springfield and she survives with one son, Robert (Linda) Schaeffing of Wilmington; one daughter, Deborah Kay Polcyn of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Mark) Thomas of Patriot; Rob (Jodie) Polcyn of Proctorville; Joshua Polcyn of Gallipolis; Kristann (Scott) Chaffin, Pittsford, N.Y.; Seth Schaeffing of Wilmington; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Campbell of Springfield and a special friend, Beulah Cremeans of Gallipolis.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2004, in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 541 Second Ave, Gallipolis with the Rev. Becky Michelfelder officiating.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to St. Peter's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 541 Second Ave, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.
Memorial Services will be conducted by the Elks Lodge # 107 followed by the Royal Order of the Moose Lodge #731 at 8 p.m. Thursday, Presentation of the American Flag by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations.
