Elsie Bethelene Marcum, 58, of Columbus, formerly of Vinton, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
She was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Pike County, Ky., the daughter of Harvey Hess, and the late Nancy Thacker Hess.
She was a member of the Shining Light Baptist Church in Hilliard.
Elsie married Woodrow Marcum on April 3, 1965, in Grundy, Va., and he survives her.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Lee Hess, on March 6, 1972.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Woodrow Dwayne (Jennifer) Marcum of Bloomington, Ind., and Timothy Donald Marcum of Columbus; three grandchildren, Joelle Marie, Bethany Victoria and Alec Dwayne Marcum; two brothers, Eddie Dean (Stella) Hess of Vinton, and James Ottis (Sheila) Hess of Sidney, Ky.; and four sisters, Emogene (Dewey) Craig of Johnstown, Darthula Ruth (Oscar) Marcum of Chesapeake, Va., Josephine (James) Stiltner of Kimper, Ky., and Patricia Ann (Wayne) Cole of Mariba, Ky..
Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in the Vinton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chester Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004.
