Albert Eugene Merriman, 93, Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Holzer Medical Center. He was born November 25, 1910 at Gallipolis, son of the late Albert K. and Alberta Eugenia Brothers Merriman.
Albert was a 1928 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and attended Phillips-Exeter Academy Prepatory School in New Hampshire. He was a 1933 graduate of Harvard College where he received his Bachelors Degree. Following graduation he pursued graduate study at the University of Chicago and at Harvard University. Before finishing his Ph.D. Albert enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in the European Theater. Returning home he became a professor of Classical Languages at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, teaching Greek and Latin before retiring in 1970. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church, Gallipolis, with Pastor Timothy Louma officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Tuesday 5:00 - 7:00 P.M.
