1921 - 2004

Wayne Baker Brown, 83, Gallipolis, Ohio died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Born June 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Earl McConnell and Louise Baker Brown. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenter’s Local Union #1159, Pt. Pleasant, WV and The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. A WWII Navy Veteran serving with the Seabees in the South Pacific, Wayne was a member of VFW Post 4464, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Gallipolis, and he attended First Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church both of Gallipolis for the past 40 years.

Wayne helped build many area churches, homes, and businesses in the Gallipolis, Pt. Pleasant area. Most notably, he helped build the first Bob Evans Restaurant, previously located on Eastern Ave., Gallipolis.

He married Genevieve Jarvis on March 30, 1952, at Gallipolis, Ohio and she survives.

One Nephew, John Earl (Kathy) Brown, Brunswick, OH

Two Brothers, Ernest and Merrill Brown

One Sister, Janis Brown

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 600 McCormick Rd, Gallipolis, with Rev. Philip Walker and Rev. Joseph Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by Gallia County Veteran Service Organizations. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Wednesday, 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 7:00-9:00 P.M. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Pegg, Jim Comer, Tommy Matthews, Kenton Sheline, Mike Northup, William Shaw, Robert Thomas, Dr. Ismael Jamora, Mick Agustin, Frankie Burke, Bob McMillan. Pallbearers will be Alan Alberchinski, Jay Brown, Glenn Lawson, Leroy Dailey, Ray Connelley, Bernie Crawford, Buzz Call, Bob Pegg. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wayne Brown, c/o Fellowship Baptist Church, 600 McCormick Road, Gallipolis, OH 45631.
