Calvin Mitchell Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1925 - 2007

Calvin L. Mitchell, 81, passed on to be with his beloved wife Louise on June 3, 2007, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born July 18, 1925 to John Calvin and Flora Glenn Mitchell, who preceded him in death.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John, Lawrence, Bobby, Sherman, and Otho Mitchell, one sister, Mary, and a grandson, Casby Mitchell IV, “Kip”.

He is survived by:

One daughter, Linda Ann Meadows, Pomeroy, OH

One grandson, Casby Mitchell (fiance Megan) Meadows, Pt. Pleasant, WV

One brother, Larry Gene Mitchell, Gallipolis

Two brothers-in-law:

John P. Young, Lancaster, OH

William A. Young, Pomeroy, OH

Two sisters-in-law:

Beulah Belle Mitchell, Gallipolis, OH

Elizabeth Mitchell, Bidwell, OH

Several nieces and nephews

After serving in the 90th Division of the Army, he came home to and married his high school sweetheart, B. Louise Shaw on February 13, 1947.

He receved a mechanic's education in the Army and when he came home, he worked as a mechanic for Agees Tractor Supply and Bob Saunders Gas Station at the corner of Pine St. and Second Ave. in Gallipolis.

He then went to work for the Evans Packing Co. for 27 years which then became Landmark. After leaving there, he worked for PPC in Pt. Pleasant for five years before retiring and moving to Pt. Charlotte, Florida in 1987.

He was a member of the Pt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #731 for years and also a member of the Gallipolis Boat Club. He loved his boats and the last one he owned was a 40' houseboat, where he enjoyed inviting friends for weekend outings. He always enjoyed his many boats and cars. He was really a “jack of all trades” and anyone with something broken always knew, “Calvin can fix it!” He was always there to help.

He was a very caring and compassionate person who will be sorely missed by his family and many good friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave., Gallipolis, Ohio with Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Mercerville, Ohio.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Condolences can be emailed to www.timeformemory.com/mm.

Calvin and Louise! It doesn't seem possible that you should both be gone. It still feels as though you should be young and vibrant, and I should be a little girl, eating Chex Mix at your house on Christmas! Where does time go, and why do we let our families slip away?

Mitch, Sorry to read about your Grandpa. Our thoughts and prayers go out to each of you. I forwarded the obituary to Misti and Jason who just returned this evening from visiting Shane Blain in Florida for his engagement party.
