Dorothy Irene Gordon Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1930 - 2008

The summons from Almighty God to come home and rest came to Deaconess Dorothy Irene Gordon, 77, Gallipolis, Ohio in the evening hours of February

15, 2008, at the Holzer Senior Care Facility, where she was tenderly and lovingly being cared for. With a calm peace she answered her Master's call.

Dorothy, fifth of nine children, was born to the late Charles Austin and Mary Elizabeth (Hutchinson) Howard on August 10, 1930, in Huntington Township, Vinton,Ohio.

She was a graduate of Raccoon Township High School, Rio Grande, and a member of Paint Creek Baptist Church, Gallipolis, where she served as a Deaconess.

She was united in marriage to Bobby Gordon on August 12, 1951, at New Hope Baptist Church, Harrisburg. Their union has been blessed with fifty-six years.

Dorothy leaves to honor her "home going", husband Bobby; son Robert Dean (Sherry) Gordon; three grandchildren: Nathaniel, Christopher and Matthew Gordon, all of Gallipolis; and God-daughter Beverly (Hogan) Long, Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Marianna Morgan and Mrs. Hazel (Frank) Young, both of Dayton, Ohio and four brothers: John Howard, James (Merle) Howard, William (Jacqueline) Howard all of Bidwell, Ohio and Clarence (Judy) Howard, Dayton, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, sister Margaret M. Bolling, brother Charles H. "Tiny" Howard and step-sister Mildred Morgan.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, neighbor and friend. Although a devoted homemaker and loyal church member, she always found time to volunteer for a worthy cause or care for a needy individual in the community.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Paint Creek Baptist Church, 833 Third Ave. Gallipolis, with Rev. Harry Scott Jr. and Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Street Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home-Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Saturday 23, 2008.

Memorial gifts may be sent to Paint Creek Baptist Church, 833 Third Ave., Gallipolis, OH 45631 or the Holzer Senior Care Activity Fund, 380 Colonial Dr., Bidwell, OH 45614. Online condolences may be emailed to www.timeformemory.com/mm.

With deepest sympathy in your loss. I pray your memories of Dorothy will be happy and peaceful and that they outweigh your sorrow. "When There Are No Answers" Life will bring us questions without answers; to live is to encounter silent seasons of the soul when every prayer will seem to go unanswered as we face events beyond our understanding or control. Yet in the quiet darkness, Christ is working. His silence in the shadows doesn't mean he doesn't care; a part of faith is trusting without reason, believing, when he can't be seen or heard, that he's still there. So when answers fail to come, don't be discouraged. Keep leaning in his steadfast love and trusting in his will, for knowing why won't make a difference but growing close and knowing Jesus will. Taken from Thorns & Thrones by B.J. Hoff in memory of your loved one.
