Myrtle Emily Metcalf, 91, of Vinton, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, in Holzer Senior Care Center at Bidwell.
She was born Feb. 16, 1917, at Alice in Gallia County, daughter of the late Arnett and Blanch Johnson Franklin.
She attended Vinton School and graduated from the Southern School of Cosmetology at Athens, and had taught cosmetology in Marietta. After operating her own business, she retired from the Washington County School System in 1977.
She was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church.
Myrtle married Lester Metcalf on Sept. 16, 1935, at Point Pleasant, W.Va., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1995.
Surviving this union are two children, Thomas David (Fannie) Metcalf of Vinton, and Phyllis (Kail) Burleson of Bidwell; five grandchildren, Bill (Penny) Burleson, Vickie (Steve) Stairs, Connie (Robert) Massie, Mark (Laurie) Wheeler and David (Lisa) Burleson; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Cecil Speaker, Ruth Morrissey and Laverta Porras; and a sister-in-law, Teddi Franklin.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home at Vinton, with the Rev. Marvin Sallee officiating. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008.
