Doyle Buford Minnis, 68, of Bidwell, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Holzer Medical Center at Gallipolis.
He was born June 17, 1939, son of the late William Minnis Sr. and Mable Miller Minnis.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of the Gallia County Senior Citizens Center, and had served on the Gallia County Senior Citizens Advisory Council. .
Buford was an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at Vinton, where he served as a deacon, layman, Sunday School superintendent and teacher .He also served as secretary of Providence Missionary Baptist Ministers and Deacon's Institute.
Buford married Nina Hurt Peck Minnis on Dec. 23, 1978, in Gallipolis, and she survives along with seven children, William (Celia) Peck of Gallipolis, Charles (Dinah) Peck of Bidwell, Joseph (Courtney) Peck of Gallipolis, Minnie (Charles) Miller of Gallipolis, Cora (Barnard) Brown of Columbus, Mary (Samuel) Armstrong of Bidwell, and Emma Johnson of Gallipolis.
He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchilden, a brother, Calvin (Maudine) Minnis of Bidwell; a special family member, Destiny Dotson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Services will be noon Monday, May 12, 2008, in the Mount Carmel Baptist Church at Bidwell, with the Rev. Edward Buffington and the Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan-Bethel Cemetery near Vinton, with full military rites to be conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Service Organizations.
Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home in Vinton on Sunday, May 11, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m.
