1928 - 2004
Long time Huntington resident JAMES EDWARD WATERS, 76, passed away June 1, 2004 at his home following a brief illness. He was born on May 31, 1928, to Robert Douglas and Annabelle (Kimball) Waters in Waukesha, Wis. Robert moved his family to Huntington in 1932 when the VA Hospital opened in Spring Valley where he was a Physical Therapist. Jim graduated from Vinson High School in 1946 and married Eileen Catherine Leitner on October 20, 1951. He attended Marshall College and worked in Huntington until being drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Upon returning to Huntington he was employed for 20 years at Contractors Equipment & Supply Co. In 1972 he co-founded Dolin-Waters Supply, Inc., with Bill Dolin of Huntington. He retired in 1982 and spent his retirement years playing golf at Spring Valley Country Club, flying his airplane, spending winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and traveling to visit family and friends. He was member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tri-State Pilots Association, and VFW. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister Peggy Balloff. He is survived by his wife Eileen; his brother David Waters of Covington, Va., and his five children: Jim Waters Jr., of Scott Depot, W.Va., Dan Waters of Bowling Green, Ky., Shirley Waters of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bob Waters of Albuquerque, N.M., and George Waters of Oklahoma City, Okla. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Jason Waters of Charlotte, N.C., Jeremy Waters, Bowling Green, Ky., and Margaux Waters of Albuquerque, N.M. Visitation will be at Reger Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 8:30. Funeral liturgy will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Saturday 10 a.m. with Msgr. Lawrence Luciana presiding. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Grade School, 520 13th St., Huntington, WV 25701.

When I heard that Jim had passed away, boy, did the memories come pouring in. I remember their house on 3rd ave and how facinated I was with the big cable spools that were in the back. I always thought they would make a great table!!Mom and I would stop by and I remember George would come running down the hall. He will be missed by all.
