1922 - 2007

Margaret MaryO'Neill Layne passed on July 2, 2007, in Huntington, WV, at her home. She was born on April 14, 1922, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of William Francis and Sarah Anne O'Neill. She spent all of her adult life in Huntington. She graduated magna cum laude from Marshall College majoring in the French language and voice. After her marriage to Attorney Carney M. Layne, she devoted the rest of her life to her family and various social, religious and political causes. She changed lives in her own,meaningful way. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers, William F. O'Neill, Robert A. O'Neill and John Paul O'Neill. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Alice M. Daniel (husband David E. Daniel), Anne E.Farley (husband Dan "Farl" Farley), Margaret Mary Layne (partner, Allen S. Pattie), Sarah E. Layne and Carney M. Layne, III, (wife, Robin Layne); her grandchildren, Amy L. McElroy (husband, Jamie McElroy), Laura A. Finley (husband,Chris J. Finley), Molley E. Daniel, John Paul Farley, Elizabeth A. Farley, Stacey Buckles (husband, Jake Buckles), Benaiah Layne, Rachael Layne, Neriah Layne, Carney M. "Buster" Layne, IV, and Chase Layne; and her great-grandchildren, Rebekah L Finlay and Benjamin P. McElroy. She will be greatly missed by all her family, her many friends and all those whose lives she touched in a loving way. A Latin Funeral Mass will be held at eleven o'clock, am, on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at the Church from ten o'clock, am, to eleven o'clock, am, prior to the service. Pallbearers will be David E. Daniel, Dan "Farl" Farley, John Paul Farley, Jamie A. McElroy, Chris J. Finlay and Allen Storm Pattie. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to BirthRight of Huntington, the Huntington Museum of Art or Hospice of Huntington. The children would like to thank Dan "Farl" Farley, Becky Dingess and Hospice of Huntington for all they have done to carae for their Mother during her last illness.
