In his personal life, he achieved his dream of being an award-winning poet and author pursing the deeper meaning of mans relation to man, and to God. Early in his writing career he won the prestigious American Poets Cup in 1952, and went on to publish his work in major national poetry journals for the next four decades. He was listed in Whos Who in the East, and in the International Whos Who of Poetry. Mr. LeGrandes first and only published novel, The Wayward Leaves, is a powerful work that explores murder, guilt, and love. He said of the book later, That book consumed years of my life. He wrote several other novels, and was working on his autobiography in the last months of his life.

Mr. LeGrande was deeply involved in the Huntington community, having served on the board of directors of the Huntington Writers and Authors Guild and the Huntington Mental Health Association. He ran for Huntington City Council, District A in 1973. Mr. LeGrande was passionately involved with his church, and was most proud of having his poetry published weekly in the Celebration Church bulletin.

Bill: Though I did not see you very often over the last few years,Your influence remainde with me. Over Many years , You sheltered me, Guided Me , Fed Me, and Most important of all......You Befriended Me . I will never forget your patience, quiet understanding, and how you exemplified the word "Perseverance" . I know that you are in Gods Arms now,and are no doubt talking with Bub and Helen. Give them my love ,and know that you take the same with you. Delbert .

To the family of Bill: He and I worked together at Tidewater Supply (formerly Banks-Miller) and developed a respectful relationship and shared a mutual respect and love for our parents, in particularly mothers. He was a thoughtful, intelligent, gentle and caring man. I saw Bill several years ago and enjoyed re-visiting and reminded him of the signed copy of his novel that he gave to me. I know he will be missed by family, friends and peers.

Bill was a fine friend, and good citizen. He will be remembered by all who he touched. I inherited his desk at State Electric, so I surely think of him a lot, Joan and Art Weisberg
