1935 - 2009

George Ira BickarBehold, I come quickly, blessed is he that keepeth - - the sayings of the prophecy of the book. Rev. 22:7

George Ira Bickar, 74, of Huntington was unexpectedly ushered into the presence of his Lord on August 31, 2009 leaving behind his beloved wife, Nina F. Plaster Bickar of 52 years and their precious children Karen Plaster Fischer and her husband Tim. George was born June 5th 1935, a son of the late George T. and Victoria Simmons Bickar. Also surviving are special brothers and sisters in law, Kenneth Plaster, Mary Plaster and Carl and Betty Kilgore; very dear friends/cousins Margaret and Don Brooks, as well as a large host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. George proudly served his country in the USMC before beginning a 25 year career with the Huntington Fire Department. Following retirement, he was a Cabell County School bus driver for 8 years. He was a member and deacon of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church for over 25 years. Loved by everyone he met, he will be dearly missed. Visitation will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Jody Fortner. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. Condolences may be made to the family at www.timeformemory.com/reger.

I never knew this gentleman, but as I was driving home, I got caught up by the traffic from his funeral. The traffic was stopped on the roads and it brought tears to my eyes when I saw the firemen and police put their hands over their hearts as the proccesession drove by. My thougths were "this must have been a great human being" I have never witnessed such a public demonstration of dignity and respect before. I am sorry for your loss, but at least you can know that God Himself must've been very proud of him and waited at the gates for him to enter into his Home.To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. His last breath here was sad, but his very next breath was standing before his Father in Heaven. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Dear Nina and family, I just wanted to express my heartfelt sympathy to all of you. I had not seen George in many years but I have very fond memories of him and spending Thanksgiving with you guys. No one will ever beat George's thanksgiving turkey!! He was one of the kindest men I have ever met. His sense of humor could brighten anyone's day and his love for Christ was inspirational. I am truly very sorry for your loss. I know the coming weeks and months will be terribly difficult for all of you. May you find comfort knowing he is with our Lord and Saviour and that you will be together once again in Glory. If there is anything I can do for any of you, no matter what it is, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you all and hold you close. Sincerely, Christina Kirtley (Makayla's mom)

Karen, words can not express the sorrow I feel for you. I know you loved him very much and its always so hard to loose someone unexpectedly like this. You've worded his obit very well though, he was ushered into the presence of the Lord and is in a better place than we are. I pray God will give you comfort and peace at this time. Hold to the promise of one day meeting him again. My sincere condolences to my Myspace buddy, sister in Christ and all her family!

I have known George my entire life having lived just a short distance from him and Nina. I remember walking down the road as a child and seeing George in the yard. he would always wave and stop to talk with me even as a child. I am saddened by the news of his untimely passing. To me, he will always be remembered as one of the kindest men I have ever known. May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with Nina and his family during this tragic time. RIP George Bickar.
