Elda P. Hill, 90, of DeGraff, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 in her residence.
She was born near Roundhead in Hardin County on June 20, 1913, a daughter of the late William "Doc" and Margaret Alice Abel Plummer. She also was preceded in death by two infant daughters; three brothers, Paul Plummer, Brooks Plummer and Harold Plummer; and three sisters, Mildred Phelps, Vera Kline and Bernice Fogle.
On Aug. 3, 1939, she married Gerald R. Hill in Lima and they resided together on the Hill farm for 61 years. He preceded her in death June 26, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Lowell (Donna) Hill of DeGraff; a daughter, Cheryl (Daniel) Burch of Lewistown; grandchildren, Lance (Nikki) Hill of Quincy and Lindsay Hill of Columbus; great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Hill of Quincy; stepgrandchildren, Douglas (Kay) Burch of Jackson Center, V. Gale (Ruthann) Burch of Anna, Daniel (Marcia) Burch Jr. and Timothy (Holly) Burch, both of Lewistown, and Joyce (Ron) Carr fo Pittsburgh; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Roundhead High School graduate, she attended college at Bowling Green State University and graduated from Ohio Northern University. She was an elementary school teacher for six years at Roundhead, for 10 years in the Indian Lake Local School District and for six years in the Graham School District.
She was a member of the DeGraff United Methodist Church and was active in the Rum Creek United Metthodist Church Women for more than 40 years. Other memberships included 50 years with Pleasaant Grange, county state and national teachers' associations and the Logan County Farm Bureau.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and just being with friends and family.
Pastor Bill Halter conducts funeral services at 3 p.m. Friday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff.
