F. O'gureta Cummings, 85, of rural Sidney, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, in her home.
She was born in Hardin County on Jan. 7, 1920, a daughter of the late Andrew and Esther Spain Gossard.
On Dec. 30, 1939, she married Frank M. Cummings in Newport, Ky., and he died July 9, 2002. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Cummings; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Cummings; a sister, Wilda Winegardner; and two brothers, Garfield and Lyman Gossard.
Survivors include a son, Tim Cummings of Quincy; two daughters, Sally (Nick)Mescher of West Liberty and Judy (Carlos) Wolfe of Covington; grandchildren, Sara Durham, Tim, Shawn, Pat and Kelly Wolfe, Libby, Maggie, and Ellie Mescher, and Cole and Olivia Cummings; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sue Stieben of Toledo.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church, the Shelby County Farm Bureau, the Shelby County Holstein Club, and the Ohio and National Holstein Associations. For 37 years, she served as the executive secretary for the National Holstein Futurity.
In 1990, she was inducted into the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame and was named Ohio Holstein Woman of the Year in 2000.
At one time, she owned and operated the Cummings Charm and Modeling School in Sidney and judged local queen contests.
The Rev. N. Matthew Wright conducts a funeral at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Quincy United Methodist Church, where calling is from 11 a.m. until time of the services. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
