I was in total shock when I heard the news on CNN and then my sister confirmed of the tragedy. My heart and thoughts go out to the families of those who died. I knew Gary from High School days and always enjoyed my visits to Degraff where I went to the local hangout of teenagers; i.e., where we use to duck pin and have a great time. He will be surely missed, both at home and in the United Methodist Church family of which I am also a member in Lake Ridge, Virginia. John R. Handley

I have been friends with Ralph and Wilma Buroker, Gary, Sharyl, and Sherrie Kay since Sherrie Kay was a baby. We showed horses together while I was still living in Quincy. They were truly wonderful, caring people, and the loss is enormous. My condolences to the surving grandaughter. My prayers are with her.

Having lived with the Shafer's in my youth I felt deep compassion and sorrow for remaining family members. Had lost contact after Gary's parents passed on and if brother Ronald & wife Martha are in attendance, additional heartfelt condolences to them.
May God Bless one and all.

Ronnie, please accept my sympathy and condolences at the sad and sudden loss of your brother. Do you remember the old days in DeGraff when your family lived on the street behind Dad's grocery store? And I think you graduated with my brother Warren. It was so long ago, but I remember Gary as a pleasant, cheerful and sometimes funny youngster. I'm very sorry for your loss and will remember you in thought and prayer. Sincerely,
Joan Carey Cho

I knew Gary when we were very young. I was about 15 and he played football for the Degraff team. I remember how thoughtful and kind, but fun, his mother was. I am so sad that both Gary and Sharyl's lives were ended at a time in their lives when I am sure they were enjoying their teenage grandchildren and doing the things that most retired people do. Sharyl was in my graduating class at Bellefontaine. They will both be missed.

Ron and Martha,
Our sincere condolences to you in this time of sorrow. Although circumstances prevented me from being closer to you while we were growing up, it does not diminish the fact that we are family and we are here if you need us. Although I am limited in a physical capacity and not able to stand at the funeral home or cemetery, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jerry and Billie Sue can give you our number if you should need us...I know that they will be of great help to you at this time, Once again, our deepest condolences and sympathy at your devastating loss.
