Florence was my aunt; my Dad was Merle Olin. I will always remember two things about Aunt Florence: her hospitality and her "listening." Whenever we came to visit (6 of us!) she always had fun activities planned and good food to eat. (I don't know how we all fit into her little house in Springhills.) I remember especially her made-from-scratch hickory nut cake. I even remember that one Christmas, a friend of Florence's gave her a plastic bag of hand-shelled hickory nuts just so she could make this particular cake. Florence was also a great listener. When Florence asked you a question, even if you were just a child, she really did want to know the answer. She paid attention to us as kids and was always interested in what we were learning in school, what we liked to do, what our plans for the future were... I will remember her as my favorite aunt and an example of so many good qualities.

Mrs. Dill was my 4th grade teacher at Graham North Elementary 34 years ago. She was such a wonderful educator. She instilled in me the love of reading. She read aloud to our class the entire "Little House" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. From that point on I was transfixed. I read to my 3 children and the greatest compliment came from my then 10 year old daughter who told her 5th grade teacher that she loved to hear her mom read! Now as a grandmother, I love to read to my 3 year old granddaughter. What a blessing that I had Mrs. Dill as a teacher. I have never forgotten her kindness, her strength and her very apparent love of reading. Thank you for sharing her with me.
