Donald Lee Rose, 78, of Quincy, died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
Born June 7, 1927, in Champaign County, he was a son of the late Hugh E. and Zetta Marie Dorsey Rose.
On July 30, 1980, he married Rosealie M. Dick Steele in DeGraff, and she survives along with two daughters, Judy Wolfe of South Charleston and Tammy Rose of Springfield; one son, Bruce (Teresa) Rose of Quincy; three stepsons, Stephen C. Wilson, Joey E. Wilson and Kris A. Wilson; one sister, Doris Schindewolf of DeGraff; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa A. Linean; and one brother, Hugh Robert Rose.
He attended school in Rosewood where he played basketball. He was a member of the American Trap Shooters Association and the United States Trotting Association. He trained trotting horses for many years and was involved in tractor pulling contests when they first began.
He farmed all his life and worked in construction, digging tunnels.
An avid card player and trap shooter, he also enjoyed sitting around the gossip table at restaurants in both Quincy and DeGraff.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where the funeral begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor N. Matthew Wright officiating. Burial is in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco.
