Mariana Jane Melhorn Click for Condolences      Printable Version

Mariana Jane Melhorn, 81, of Sidney, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in Dorothy Love Health Care Center in Sidney.

She was born in Mayfield Heights on March 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Sharp Sherwood. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Smith and Gladys Sherwood.

On Dec. 16, 1945, she married Robert Edward Melhorn and he survives, along with a daughter, Jane (Kent) Witt of Sidney; two sons, Michael (Sharon) Melhorn of Bellbrook and Gary (Pam) Melhorn of Kettering; seven grandchildren, Kent Jr., Kyle, Susan, Katy, Kelly, Rob and Steve; two brothers, Franklin J. (Emma Jane) Sherwood of Centerville and Jay Sherwood of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Gloria (Max) Clay of Grinnell, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

A 1942 graduate of Quincy High School, she worked part time at the Hi-Grade Oil Co. in Quincy for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker.

One of the longest standing members of the congregation, she was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church for 67 years.

The Rev. Matthew Wright conducts a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, where calling is two hours prior. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery in Quincy. Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Bob and Family, So sorry to hear of Mariana death she was a very sweet and kind lady. We lost mom 6 years ago i think of her everyday and sometimes just sit and talk to her when i am by myself.The pain does get better has time goes by.Just think of the special times u had together.We are here for all of u if u need to talk or to just sit and listen ..thanks to both of u wonderful people i am proud to of grown up and knew the both of u.Quincy needs more people like u..u will sadly be missed...take care Bob...
