1957 - 2005

Richard Scott "Rick" Wilgus, 48, of DeGraff, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:50 p.m. Firday, Dec. 30, 2005, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born in Bellefontaine on April 16, 1957, a son of Richard M. and Elva Mae Moore Wilgus, who survive in DeGraff.

On July 12, 1981, he married the former Darlene Jo Sidders in Rushsylvania and she survives, along with four daughters, Brande Wilgus and Rikki Wilgus, both of DeGraff, Amber Wilgus of Bellefontaine and Ashley (Nathan) Valmore of Fort Polk, La.; sisters, Dixie (Tom) Mann of Jackson Center, and Vickie (Chuck) Strayer, Lisa (Randy) Ransbottom and Lori (Clark) Fraley, all of DeGraff; and grandchildren, Javon Strickland and Keyne Strickland, both of Bellefontaine, Deon Wilgus, Trae Wilgus and Ty Johnson, all of DeGraff, and Brooklynn Valmore of Louisiana.

One grandchild, Toran Johnson, preceded him in death.

An assistant vice president at Honda of America Mfg. at East Liberty, he was an active member of the Quincy United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the trustees and instrumental in the restoration of the church. In 1975, he graduated from Riverside High School as class president. He was a member of the Marysville Emmaus Community and the Goldwing Association.

He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting with his dogs, woodworking, riding his motorcycle and vacationing with his family. He also was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

Pastor N. Matthew Wright conducts a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Quincy United Methodist Church Thursday. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff on Wednesday. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

I just wanted to say that I worked with Rick and he was a great man and associate here at Honda. He was dedicated and always had a kind word to say. I just met with him in Oct during Techfest competition and he gave me some encouraging words on our activities and how it benefited Honda. I know he will be sadly missed by his family as well as his family here at Honda. My prayers are with you, Godbless, Robin Herzog

My thoughts and prayers are with Rick's family and friends at this difficult time. I had the privilege to know Rick throughout my 20 years at Honda, and to work with him in MAP-Assembly. No matter how high he climbed on the ladder of success, he always had a smile and a moment to talk. He was a down-to-earth person, and truly one of the "good guys". He will be sadly missed at Honda, but certainly missed much more by his loved ones. My deepest sympathies to you. May God bless and comfort you.
