Jerold Emerson "Jerry" Wiford, 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February, 8, 2006, from his rural Bellefontaine farm.
A lifelong farmer, he spent his time raising corn, soybeans, wheat and beef cattle and helping his friends and neighbors whenever they were in need, many of whom came to his assistance in his time of need. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his great faith in God and his work ethic.
Born April 28, 1938, in rural Champaign County, he was a son of the late Leland A. and LaDonna Young Wiford.
Survivors include his wife, Marilu Ashbaugh Wiford, whom he married May 2, 1959, in Newport, Ky.; two sons, Jerold E. "Skip" (Beth) Wiford II and J. Scott (Carmel) Wiford, both of Bellefontaine; two daughters, Debbie (Scott) Atterholt of DeGraff and Kristy L. King of Blacklick; two brothers, Roland E. (Darlene) Wiford of Danville and Samuel D. (Patricia) Wiford of Jackson Center; three sister, Janice A. Wiford of Jackson Center, Kathy Maxwell of Sidney and Melanie J. Wiford of Anna; four grandchildren, Angela (Curt) Atterholt Leatherman of West Mansfield, Alicia Atterholt and Abigail Atterholt, both of DeGraff, and Jared Wiford of Bellefontaine; one sister-in-law, Joette (Clarence) Ashbaugh Garman of northern Kentucky; one brother-in-law, Joseph (Gloria) Ashbaugh of northern Kentucky; one aunt, Virginia Wiford James of DeGraff; and many nieces and nephews.
A 1956 graduate of Washington Local High School in Lewistown, he was a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau and the DeGraff Freewill Baptist Church, where the funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. James Roby officiating.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff. Burial is in Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty.
