Ruth Opal Knight, 94, of DeGraff, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2006, at Logan Acres.
She was born September 16, 1911, in Pleasant Township, Logan County, a daughter of the late John L. and Etta Shaw Hengsteler.
On June 19, 1938, she married Wesley J. Knight in Logan County and he preceded her in death August 24, 1957.
Survivors include sons, Donald E. (Diane) Knight of Jackson Center and David P. (Nancy) Knight of DeGraff; grandchildren, Brian P. (Stephanie) Knight, Kevin P. (Janell) Knight and Kelly J. (Eric) Kauffman, all of DeGraff, and Douglas D. Knight and Daniel E. (Julia) Knight, both of Cincinnati; and seven great-grandchildren.
A 1929 graduate of DeGraff High School, she earned a teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor of science degree from Urbana University. An elementary school teacher for 33 years, mostly in the Indian Lake and Graham school districts.
She was a member of the Bellefontaine First Church of God, its Missionary Society, DeGraff Homemakers Club, the 20th Centruty Club, the Logan County Retired Teachers Association and the Urbana Senior Citizens.
An avid world traveler, she visited all 50 states and some 27 countries.
The Revs. Gary Brown and Ron Irick conduct a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sudnay. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
