Irene Belle Spangler

Irene Belle Spangler, 79, of DeGraff, died Monday, June 26, 2006, in her home.

She was born in Quincy on Oct. 11, 1926, a daughter of the late Alonzo Everette and Lena Flora Ward. On Dec. 10, 1955, she married Frank Spangler in West Mansfield and he died March 12, 1987. She also was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Stewart; a daughter, Beverly Spangler; a brother, Cecil Ward; a grandson, Shane Stewart; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include a son, Keith (Tracy) Stewart of Rushsylvania; daughters, Cathy (Dan) Dever of DeGraff and Vicky (Bill) Slone of New Knoxville; brothers, Harold Ward of Minster, Richard (Janice) Ward of Maplewood and Dale (Brenice) Ward of Quincy; sisters, Helen Watkins of Maplewood and Maxine (Albert Lee) Clark of Rosewood; grandchildren, Michelle (Don) Klingler, Heather (Ben) Hakes, Angela Stewart, Rhonda Stewart, Laura Slone, Michael Slone and Zachary Stewart; nine great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; six great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A homemaker, she was a 1944 graduate of Quincy High School and was a former member of the VFW Post 2835 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing and being at the river.

Pastor Greg Ewing conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
