Mary Helen Allen

Mary Helen Allen, 92, of Quincy, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2006, at Mary Rutan Hospital.

Born on April 28, 1914, in Lucasville, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Sara Chestnut Allison. She married Clinton O. Allen on Oct. 7, 1929, in Louisville, Ky., and he died April 5, 1985.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Zirkle; two grandchildren; and siblings, Charles Allison, Earl B. Allison, Cecil P. Allison, Pearl Fleming, Ruth Mees and Edna Roberts. Survivors include four sons, Earl (Lucille) Allen and Charles (Phyllis) Allen, both of DeGraff, and Jerry (Bobbi) Allen and Roger (Jane) Allen, both of Quincy; a daughter, Opal (Roy) Wones of Quincy; 29 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and 41 great-great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, she attended the Buckeye Gospel Barn in Quincy and had worked as a nurse's aide at Logan Acres for a number of years.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Revs. Leroy Hughes and Jerry Allen officiate. Burial is in Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson.
