John Lytle Knief, 86, of DeGraff, died at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Logan Acres Care Center after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 5, 1920, in Bloomfield Township, Logan County, a son of Edward and Iona Pearl Piper Knief.
Survivors include one sister, Avril Knief of DeGraff; two nieces Betty (Mike) Wren of Bellefontaine and Dixie (Dwaine) Golliday of Lewistown; and four nephews, Jerry (Karen) Knief and Dale (Velda) Knief, both of DeGraff, and Farrell (Roberta) Knief and James (Connie) Knief, both of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul R. "Doc" Knief, Russell Knief, Eugene Knief and Oliver Knief.
A retired farmer and lifelong resident of Bloomfield Township, he served as a Bloomfield Township Trustee for 12 years and also as a member of the Board of Directors for the Citizens Bank of DeGraff for 13 years.
The family receives friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff. A graveside service begins at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff, with the Rev. Edward Shady officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Cancer Society and Wilson Hospice.
