Virginia Ruth James, 83, of DeGraff, died at 12:47 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
She was born in Bloom Center on Jan. 5, 1924, a daughter of the late Brice L. and Myrtle Blanch Hawkins Wiford. On April 28, 1952, she married Odell James in Oil Trough, Ariz., and died Sept. 21, 1994.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Coverstone; a brother, Leland Wiford; and grandson, Christopher Landis.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey James of Huntsville, Jay (Shirley) James of New Bremen and Capt. Michael (Brenda) James of Rome, Italy; daughters, Deborah James of DeGraff, Ruth Ann (Ivan) Landis of South Vienna and Cynthia (William) Blair of St. Paris; grandchildren, Shannon Landis of South Vienna, Chad James, Elizabeth (Dustin) Lange and Ashleigh James, all of New Bremen, Jason James of Willow Grove, Pa., Ted (Myreen) James of San Diego, Amanda James of Norfolk, Va., Rachel James of DeGraff, Stephen (Tracee) Blair of St. Paris and Abigale (Matthew) Castelucci of Urbana; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A homemaker and member of the Rikmah Club of DeGraff, she was a cook for Riverside Local Schools for several years.
Pastor Richard Keeran conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
