Edith Irene Foster
Edith Irene Foster, 78, of DeGraff, died at 8:46 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
She was born in rural Urbana on Aug. 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Glen Wood and Hattie Ann Legge Shreves. On July 20, 1957, she married Thomas Edison “Bill” Foster in Richmond, Ind., and he died Jan. 15, 1987.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred E. Wood, Carl E. Wood and one who died as a toddler; and one sister, Mary Jane Hughes.
Survivors include sons, Randy Foster and Rick (Reneé) Foster, both of Quincy; daughters, Regina L. Foster of DeGraff and Rita J. (Larry) Edwards of West Liberty; a sister, Donna Mae Scherer of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Matthew Foster, Lee Edwards and Tonya Cole; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Cole and Brandy Cole; and a sister-in-law, Ava Wood of DeGraff.
A 1947 graduate of Quincy High School, she retired in 1991 from the Copeland Corp., Sidney, after 40 years of service. She was a homemaker who never knew a stranger. She enjoyed her flower garden and quilting was her passion. She made quilts and gave them to family, friends and people in nursing homes.
Pastor Justin Erickson conducts a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
