Howard J. Householder, 75, of DeGraff, died at 5:21 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
A son of the late Daniel Howard and Thelma Irene Kitchen Householder, he was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Chesterhill.
On July 17, 1954, he married Carol Sue Hammond in Wellston, and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Kristy Sue (Ted) Evilsizor of DeGraff, Vicky Lyn (Richard) Conder of Cambridge, Kimberly Jo (Stephen) Richmond of Bridgeport, W.Va., and Dena Marie (Wesley) Worrell of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Wilma Ruth Gibbons and Donna Mae (Harley) Strayer, both of DeGraff; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A 1949 graduate of DeGraff High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. He retired in 1996 as a clerical specialist for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
He also served as a deputy sheriff under former Logan County sheriffs Donald Horn and DeWeese Skidmore. In addition, he served on the DeGraff Village Council. He was a member of the DeGraff United Methodist Church, where he held many offices. He was a member of the Boggs Lodge 292 F&AM, a past commander of the Miami Valley Post 652 American Legion, DeGraff, and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where the Rev. Julia L. Ronngren conducts a funeral at noon Wednesday. A Masonic service begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
