
Ava Marie Wood, 81, of DeGraff, died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.
She was born in Ritner, Ky., on Nov. 10,1925, a daughter of the late Gilson Pearson and Rachel Elizabeth Worley Jones.
On June 17, 1950, she married Carl Edward Wood in DeGraff and he preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1992. She also was preceded in death by siblings, Richard, Monroe, Ceilia Bell, Bessie, Issac, James, Nannie, Eliza, Levada and Silas Jones (Paul’s twin); sister and brother-in-law, Nova (Alfred) Wood; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane (Harry) Hughes and Edith (Thomas) Foster.
She will be greatly missed by her survivors, inc1uding a son, Carl E. Wood II of DeGraff;daughter, Karen Oder of West Lib¬erty, brother, Paul Jones of Sidney, sisters, Lora (Marvin) Maxwell of Whitley City, Ky., Nina (Walter) Cotterman of Sid¬ney and Lela (George) Tucker of Monticello, Ky.; grandsons, Brad (Ryin) Oder and Todd Oder, both of West Liberty; great-grandsons, Brennan Oder and Blayne Oder; and sisters-in-law, Donna (Eugene) Scherer of Bellefontaine and Elnora Jones of Whitley City, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews in Ohio, ,Indiana and Kentucky.
A homemaker, she was employed at Copeland Corp. in Sidney for nine years and attended Quincy Chapel Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a wonderful, loving mother and she thoroughly enjoyed her grandsons Brad and Todd. She loved to play cards, go fishing, pick dandelion greens and hunt mushrooms.
Her smile, sense of humor and caring heart will forever be remembered by many family members and friends.
Nephew Lenville Maxwell will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Home Health and Hospice, Sidney.
