Stanley Fletcher "Dutch" Freshour Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1916 - 2007

Stanley F. (Dutch) Freshour, of DeGraff, Ohio, responded to the ‘All Aboard’ from the Conductor for his final train ride and has entered the heavenly depot to a welcoming committee of family, friends, and, most of all, a long-awaited “Well Done” by none other than the Master Himself, his Lord Jesus Christ.

Born February 26, 1916 in Waverly, Ohio, to the late Fletcher and Laura (Murphy) Freshour, he was the last surviving member in a family of nine children.

He was married in Waverly, Ohio August 31, 1935 to Neva Gathel Boggs. They shared 68 years together before she preceded him to their Heavenly Father’s house on May 12, 2004. They had one son, Eddie, who was also their Pastor for 33 years. Dutch served in the Pacific Theater of Operations in WWII and spent 36 years on the D. T. & I. Railroad before retiring in 1976 as an engineer.

He left a legacy of a praying man and touched the lives of so many with his sacrificial giving and great humor. He leaves incredible memories to his remaining family: Eddie and Nancy (Pencil) Freshour, Rob and Debbie (Freshour) Cutlip, great grandchildren Tiffani and Zachary Cutlip and a loving family at New Beginnings Community Church in DeGraff, where he was a charter member.

Dutch now joins his beloved ‘Gathel’ and awaits the rest of his family. Before leaving, he promised to be waiting at the station and we look forward to joining him there.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff, where his son, Eddie, will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial is in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in New Carlisle.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings Community Church, DeGraff; and Green Hills Retirement Center.

Praise God for Dutch. Praise God for me having the privilege of knowing Dutch these last years of his life. His testimony and actions will always be in my heart. When others would or could not come to the alter. I would see Dutch go up front and bend down on his knees. I could tell this caused him pain – but he done it even in his late years. This I will always remember. His goal in life has been met. When it was time for him to bend his knees this week remember he did it without pain. He is exploring and asking all the questions we all want to ask. Our loss of a good friend, father, and grand father is his gain. My guess is he is exploring heaven with the heart of a child - seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting the greatness of heaven. I’m sure Dutch is getting blessed for every seed he has sown. Thank God for bringing Dutch into my life. Thank God for bringing the Freshour family to the DeGraff area. My prayers will be with your family.
