Martha Louise Kerns, 90, of Bellefontaine, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Mary Rutan Hospital.

She was born in Prospect on Aug. 31, 1917, a daughter of the late Clarence David and Eva Irene Ayers Lowry.

On Jan. 17, 1942, she married Wendell James Kerns in Marion and he died Aug. 25, 1984. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Joelene Keller; a brother, Richard Paul Lowry; and a sister, Mary Gorenflo.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Ward of Sidney; sons, James L. (Nancy) Kerns and Michael J. (Susan) Kerns, both of Bellefontaine, Phillip E. (Marty) Kerns of Lucasville and Dallas (Barbara) Nye of Fostoria; daughters, Tobey Ann (Larry) Craft of Columbus and Jeannie (Dick) Cehm of Tappahannock, Va.; sisters, Evelyn M. Wixtead of Green Camp and Clara M. Cooperider of Marion; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

A homemaker, she was a member of the DeGraff Homemakers Club and Marion Moose Lodge and attended Logansville Community Church. She collected lighthouses and enjoyed reading, family and sewing by hand.

The Revs. Floyd Lundy and Tim Stout conduct a funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is three hours prior. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.

Memorial contributions may be made to Logan County Home Health Agency.

I know this is a hard time for all the family. But just remember that she is in a better place and does not hurt any more.
