Harold Edward Oder

Harold Edward Oder, 97, of Rushsylvania, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Spring Meadows Care Center, Woodstock.

He was born in Logan County on April 10, 1911, a son of the late Harry Welman and Goldie LaPearl Slonecker Oder. On June 25, 1941, he married the former Rosella Evelyn Roby in DeGraff and she died July 10, 1991.

He also was preceded in death by three daughters, Patricia Mae Oder, Dorothy Kay Oder and Sharon Rosalie Pope; and two sisters, Mary Winona Clappsaddle and Martha Cozetta Weatherby.

Survivors include two sons, Carl (Karen) Oder of Sidney and Harold (Linda) Oder Jr. of Belton, Texas; six daughters, Sally Easton, Beverly (Richard) Lee and Rhonda (Jeff) Metz, all of Bellefontaine, Barbara (Ed) Miller of Cable, Jerry (Mike) First of Marion and Cheryl (Jeff) Brown of East Liberty; 25 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

In 1965, he retired after 44 years as a carpenter. A member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching baseball, basketball and football.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where a funeral begins at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff. Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of the donors choices.
