Eugene Plum Shoe, 94, formerly of DeGraff and Quincy, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at his daughters home in Mauldin, S.C.
He was born in Logan County on June 6, 1914, a son of the late Park A. and Nellie B. Plum Shoe. His wife, Dorothy Hazel Byer (Leach) Shoe, whom he married March 31, 1934, in Covington, Ky., preceded him in death Oct. 5, 1982.
He also was preceded in death by two sons, David A. Shoe and Park Thomas Shoe; a daughter, Marjorie Plank; a brother, Raymond Park Shoe; a grandson, Jonathon Andrew Plank; and a favored cousin, Louella.
Survivors include a son, Samuel (Deb) Shoe of DeGraff; a daughter, Beth Ellis of Mauldin; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Shoe of DeGraff; a son-in-law, Hubert Plank of Quincy; a brother, Paul A. Shoe of Bellefontaine; 14 grandchildren, Cindy Wright, Donald Smith, Lori (Rudy) Klaus, Kathleen Kathy Purtee, Minnie (Lyle) Herrick, Joe (Beth) Plank, Deedee Davis, Bethann (Cy) Noble, Kevin McGinnis, Shannon (Lisa) Shoe, Dustin (Angie) Shoe, Alicia (Travis Temple) Shoe, Clinton Shoe and Tom (Mandy) Shoe; and 22 great-grandchildren, Domineque, Scott, Annie, Rudyo, Derrick, Whitney, Cyle, Aaron, Ryan, Hailee, Blaine, Kylie, Landon, Ayva, Jayden, Camden, Ethan, Olivia, Jonathan, Joshua, Jordan and Jamie.
A 1932 DeGraff High School graduate, he was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church and a former member of the Miami Grange.
Pastor Rob Kilgore conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, where calling is from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Quincy.
