1935 - 2008
Carolyn Stickley Dorsey, 73, of Quincy, died at 8:35 PM Monday, November 24, 2008, at Logan Acres, Bellefontaine.
She was born Wednesday, November 16, 1935, in Champaign Co., OH, a daughter of the late O. Paul Stickley and Verabel Hoffman Stickley Guey who survives in Urbana.
On June 27, 1954, she married Richard Dorsey in Quincy, OH and he died April 30, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Stickley.
Other survivers include two sons; Thomas (Lori) Dorsey of Quincy and Douglas Dorsey of Washington, DC, three daughters; Shelly (John) Leighty of Sidney, Jean Ann (Matt) Cooper of Quincy, Brenda (Reino) Kauppinen of Quincy, one brother; Dean (Sharon) Stickley of Rosewood, ten grandchildren; Sarah (Don) Burley, John (Jenny) Leighty and Betsy Leighty all of Sidney, Shawn (Ronda) Shaffner of De Graff, Beth (Donnie) Conn of St. Paris, Misty (Todd) Stryker of De Graff, Katie (CJ) Murray of Hawaii, Kristi Dorsey, Perry Kauppinen and Ammanda Kauppinen all of Quincy, three step grand children; Julius Hartley and Cierra Hartley both of De Graff, and Jordan Conn of St. Paris and three great grandchildren; Ethan Shaffner and McKenzie Shaffner both of De Graff and Zoey Conn of St. Paris.
She was a 1953 graduate of Urbana H.S., Quincy Village Clerk and Water Board Clerk for 12 years, worked at Riverside Elementary School as a Teacher's Aid, for 30 years; 12 years in reading, 10 years in Kindergarten and 8 years in the Library. She did books and ran parts for her husband when they owned Hi Grade Service Station, (the current Quincy Handy Mart) and Dorsey's Service Garage, she was an active member of Quincy United Methodist Church, was a Girl Scout Leader, passed the Sidney Daily News for 12 years, and was on the Quincy-Miami Twp. Rescue Squad for a number of years. Their home was always open, with kids playing pool in the basement and keeping snowbound people when St. Rt. 235 was impassable. Due to a lack of space at Riverside Elementary, many meetings and one on one testing was done around her dinning room table. At school they referred to her home as the School Annex. She and Dick started housekeeping on Miami St. in Quincy, then bought the house on South St. east of the school where they lived for 33 years before they built on Canby St. where she has lived for 17 and a half years. On Sundays, for more than thirty years, most of the family would show up for supper. In the summer the family would spend many hours at their trailer at Weiskittle's Camp.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Quincy United Methodist Church with Pastors N. Matthew Wright and John Leighty officiating. The family will receive friends at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, De Graff on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 from 3 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial is in the Fairview Cemetery, Quincy.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Quincy United Methodist Church.

I just learned about the passing of Mrs. Dorsey. I'll always remember her from the library at the elementary. She read the best stories, and I loved library day for that reason alone. My prayers are with your family.

Our sympathy to the Dorsey family, especially to Verabel, John and Shelly. I went to school with Carolyn at Salem and was in the same 4-H club and John was my son's best man, so our lives touched again. Carolyn was a special friend. Phyllis

Carolyn was such a good person. She was so kind to my parents, sending them the church bulletin when they couldn't come to church. She was so easy to talk to. She was one who I would consider part of the "old guard" of Quincy and will be truly missed!

My deepest sympathy during this time of bereavement. I've heard many good things about Mrs. Dorsey through her son Doug and I feel as though I knew her. She was blessed to have a family who loved her so dearly and may God continue to keep you all in his care.
With a Prayerful Heart,
Doug's co-worker, Yolanda Giles
