
Luella Kerns Baughman, 93, of West Liberty, formerly of DeGraff died at 8:20 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Green Hills Center, West Liberty.
She was born near Bellefontaine on June 12, 1916, a daughter of the late Samuel Lane and Chrystal Murdock Kerns. A brother Wendell Kerns also preceded her in death.
She married John Sherman Baughman on April 21, 1935 in Ridgeway and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1993 after 57 years of marriage.
Survivors include four sons, Douglas & Alice Baughman of DeGraff, Clifford & Joyce Baughman of St.Paris, Dale & Carol Baughman of Brookeville and Ronald & Zhanna Baughman of Racine, WI; two daughters, Ramona & Richard Dodds of Temperance, MI and Carol & William Slater of Mansfield, OH; Eleven grandchildren, Mark (Marie) Baughman and Dawn (Tom) Core all of DeGraff, Kent (Sherri) Baughman of Tipp City, Jeff (Sue) Dodds and David (Mary) Dodds both of Petersburg, MI, Kevin (Kelly) Dodds of Boggstown, IN, Brad (Jessica) Baughman of Brookeville, Greg (Sherri) Baughman of Georgetown, IN, Fred (Jen) Slater of Hilliard, Kim (Chad) Dennis of Avon, Anastasia Barakoeva of Racine, WI; and 24 Great-Grandchildren.
She spent her early school years in Ridgeway and in 1934 graduated from Bellefontaine High School. She operated a licensed nursing home at her home near DeGraff, and also worked 23 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Mary Rutan Hospital where she retired in 1981.
She was an active member of the Logansville Community Church, member of the DeGraff Homemakers Club, Fortnightly Music Club, and the Public Employee Retirees. She loved music and took special delight in family gatherings.
Calling hours will be on Friday, December 18, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the Logansville Community Church, with Pastor Keith Franks officiating. Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
