Phillip L. Trout, 71, of DeGraff, died at 3:45 AM Monday, February 15, 2010, at his home.

A son of the late LeRoy and Carmelita Dunn Trout he was born May 28, 1938, in Union County.

He married Jeanne Forsythe on September 10, 1960 in North Lewisburg and she survives, along with a daughter, Melissa (Lonny) McKee of DeGraff; two grandchildren, Jacob McKee and Allison McKee, who he adored; four brothers, Kenneth Trout of Galion, Gerald (Barbara) Trout of Moses Lake, Washington, Marvin (Valerie) Trout and David (Becky) Trout all of Urbana; and a sister, Vivian (Jim) Black of West Mansfield.

A 1956 graduate of Triad High School, he earned his Bachelors from Rio Grande College, and his Masters from Xavier University. He spent his entire educational career (1965-1999) at Riverside Local Schools, first serving as Principal of the Elementary School then as Superintendent of Schools for 31 years. After retirement he was employed part-time by NEOLA as a School Board Consultant for 60 school districts in Ohio.

While at Rio Grande he was a member of the Redmen basketball team. An avid sportsman, he played fast pitch softball for the Ohio Caverns Cavemen. He was a member of the Ohio School Board Association, the Riverside Lions Club, and Boggs Lodge #292 F&AM. He and his wife enjoyed boating, camping & riding bike trails throughout the state as well as traveling.

He was a wonderful husband, father & grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Rev. Floyd Lundy conducts a funeral service on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff, where calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Burial is in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Universal Home Health & Hospice Care and/or James Cancer Research Center for brain cancer.

Phil was the NEOLA rep for our school district. He was friendly, helpful and always pleasant. We will miss him. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Phil, his brothers and sister, his parents were all our family's neighbors in North Lewisburg so many, many years ago. He was a great high school basketball player, and must have been a truly dedicated educator. My deepest sympathies to you.

Jeanne - got word of Phil's passing away from Sandy B. It has been a long time since we have seen each other but I will always have memories of our working time at Scotts. I know how hard and difficult it is to lose our husbands but I will be praying for you to be strong. I hope you will stay in touch. Doris

He was my 8th Grade BB Coach, Biology teacher in High School, Someone I looked up to. I'm sorry for your loss. He will be missed. God bless you and your family at this time of pain.
