Passed away Friday morning, May 2, 2003 at his home that he shared with his daughter and son-in-law. Doc Stewart was born December 11, 1916 in Lansing, MI the son of the late Earle and Frieda (Christ) Stewart. He was a graduate of East Lansing High School in 1935, received his BS degree in Zoology form Michigan State University in 1939 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1942. He started his first practice of veterinary medicine in Coopersville in 1942 moving to McBride, McBain, and then to Paw Paw in 1964 until he sold his practice to Dr. Duane Baker in 1970. After a successful practice in Chicago he returned to Paw Paw in 1980 and continued his work with veterinary medicine on a part-time basis from his home in Paw Paw. He had a love for reading, animals, outdoors, planting trees, hunting, fishing, but his greatest love was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Sally (Richard) Yarbrough of Paw Paw; son, Michael (Cathy) Stewart of Mason, MI; 5 grandchildren, Bob (Theresa) Yarbrough, Ricky (Amy) Yarbrough, Stacy (Charlie) Douglas, Lane Stewart and Mark Stewart; 6 great grandsons, Bobby, Jared, Chuckie, Lucas, Stewart and Danny; 2 sisters, Ruth Stewart-Dean of Traverse City, MI and Virginia Stewart of Lansing, MI; several nieces and nephews. 3 brothers, James, David and Daniel and a nephew Steve Stewart preceded Doc Stewart in death. Family will receive friends Saturday, June 7, 2003, 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Animals Best Friend Fund, Lawton or the Omega Hospice House thru the funeral home.
