Passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2003 at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton. Dortha was born April 28, 1915 in Paw Paw the daughter of the late Salathieal and Alta (Roberts) Coker. Throughout her life Dortha actively pursued her many interest in the arts and crafts. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed trying creative approaches to decorating her home and yard. A 1933 graduate of Paw Paw High School, Dortha maintained a strong interest in education and was particularly concerned with providing learning opportunities for young minorities. Ultimately, Dortha’s greatest passion lay in her desire to provide a comfortable home for her husband and best friend, Tom. During the past several years Dortha lived at White Oaks Assisted Living Center where she was blessed with the support and love of their wonderful staff. Dortha, a very devoted and loving person was united in marriage on September 20, 1936 in Kalamazoo, to Thomas V. Ampey who preceded her in death on June 22, 1997. She was also preceded in death by 5 siblings, Wiltie Coker, Robert Coker, Elsie Coker, Lucretta Coker and Susan Coker. Friends will be received Wednesday May 7, 2003, 10 to 11 a.m. at the new location of the ADAMS Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tim Gunderson officiating. Interment will be in Almena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paw Paw Alumni Association and the Van Buren Youth Camp for scholarships or to Hospice of Van Buren County.
